About four months ago I found out that I was infected with hepatitis c virus. Not good news! After some additional tests I got even worse news, I was in stage 4, the final stage of the disease. My diagnostic was chronic hepatitis c with compensated cirrhosis. Doctors came to the conclusion that I was infected 30 years ago when I suffered an accident and needed blood transfusion. I got scared, badly, mostly because all the prognostics were not in my favor and living in Romania wasn’t an advantage either. I realized shortly after that there are a lot of people infected, that there are many who have the virus and don’t know about it (I was one of them), and how dangerous the virus is. Basically it’s a disease with no, or very mild, symptoms. It advances quietly in years without any sign (my case) and it can be fatal.
